The Apex Solution is designed to deliver 100% renewable baseload power on a continuous 24/7 basis, ensuring grid stability and dispatchable output irrespective of solar intermittency or demand fluctuations.
The core of Apex integrates two energy-sector innovations: Concentrated Solar Heat (CSH) and Supercritical CO₂ (sCO₂) turbines.
To better understand how the Apex Solution works, the below schematic shows the system in action.
Thermal energy from the Concentrated Solar Heat (CSH) plant and turbine exhaust, delivered as high-temperature air, is directed into the packed-bed Sand Box thermal storage unit.
The CSH system achieves ~4× higher efficiency than photovoltaic (PV) systems, as it captures incident solar radiation across the full electromagnetic spectrum rather than being limited to the visible band.
The Sand Box provides long-duration thermal energy storage, with retention capability ranging from hours to several months, enabling dispatchable, on-demand heat delivery.
Stored thermal energy is extracted from the Sand Box at approximately 250 °C. This heat is transferred via a high-temperature recuperator to the supercritical CO₂ (sCO₂) working fluid stream. (Given that CO₂ reaches the supercritical state at 31 °C and 73.8 bar, the elevated input temperature provides significant enthalpy for power generation.)
The sCO₂ is subsequently heated to ~300 °C in an induction heater to achieve optimal turbine inlet conditions.
The high-temperature sCO₂ expands through the sCO₂ turbine, driving a bifilar permanent-magnet motor/generator.
The generator produces an electrical output as required by the customer (10MW/20MW).
A capacitor bank is integrated at the generator output to ensure near unity power factor (p.f. ≈ 0.99) and maintain total harmonic distortion (THD) below 5% at the source.
Turbine exhaust heat is recovered and routed to the cold side of the heat exchangers, supporting a regenerative cycle with a coefficient of performance COP of 6-10 (depending on conditions). The recovered thermal energy is either redirected to the Sand Box for storage or reintroduced into the working cycle, thereby improving system round-trip efficiency.
The Apex is available in 5MW and 10MW unit sizes.
These units can then be run in parallel to create utility scale output power, and smaller units can be sited next to the end user application to ensure minimal transmission losses.
Scalable from 10MW to 5GW, under a long-term PPA Remedy Earth will handle every step of the process: Financing with 3rd party lenders, Manufacture, Certification, Delivery, Installation and Management/ Maintenance for the entire length of the term. The units have a useful life of 40-50 years.
Upon completion of term, the power stations are gifted to the client where they will provide virtually costless power for a further 10-20 years.
